Eighth Grade Teacher - LBC Email Phone: (920) 794-1614 I have worked for the Two Rivers Public School District for the last 30 years, specifically as an 8th Grade teacher for L.B. Clarke Middle School. For the last several years, I have served as one of the 8th Grade Integrated Studies teachers. Previous to that, I was the 8th Grade Reading Teacher. I originally started as an 8th Grade Social Studies and Math teacher.
I am primarily responsible for working with a larger part of the 8th grade and some 7th grade student population, specifically in learning how to improve our overall reading and writing abilities. We focus our studies around three to four shared quarterly modules (units) and each module's class book. Students are also given the opportunity to choose supplemental texts, that are within their interest level, and provided time to read them, in order to help build their background knowledge on each quarterly module. Our shared quarterly module books are read and annotated as a class in order to garner a deeper understanding of each text. Our understand is then stretched through written essays that extend our reactions to the author's messages. Much teacher modeling is used throughout the year, so that students can develop an understanding of not only the skills being taught but also how they can adapt the skills to their individual learning.
My other professional responsibilities are being a 7th Grade Advisor, an active Integrated Studies team member, and member of the ELA Task Force. I am a Wisconsin licensed reading instructor, besides having targeted education in U.S. and world history. I am a current member of the Wisconsin State Reading Association and the International Reading Association as well.
